Why do I want a Transfer?
The transfer is lawfully passing a firearm, following BATFe policy, from a Seller to a private citizen.
Does every firearm need to be TRANSFERED?
By BATFe rules, where ownership is transferring across a State boundary, a "TRANSFER" is required through a FFL licensee.
What is involved in a Transfer?(Steps to accomplish)
Buyer secures item via deposit, purchase agreement, etc.
Buyer forwards Seller's contact info AND Item detail to FFL agent
FFL/Transfer Agent remits FFL and shipping information to Seller.
Seller varifies FFL info via NCIC or web check and ships to FFL
Buyer should forward Tracking info to receiving FFL
FFL receives item and logs according to ATF regulations
BUYER provides information for, or completes ATF form 4473 for transfer approval.
FFL submits ID info for NTN. Transaction completed upon SAT Background check (instant).
*** FFL maintains transaction record and logs per ATF requirements.
*** In South Carolina, no NTN required for Concealed Weapons Permit holders.
Is my firearm Registered?
WE HOPE NOT. As proven throughout world history, regarding all defensive tools, REGISTRATION IS THE INITIAL STEP TOWARD CONFISCATION. We should all; every citizen, keep this FACT in mind each and every time we vote for any level political office from neigborhood watch to the Presidency of the federal government.
TRANSFERED IS NOT REGISTERED. Registration entails an imbecilic visit to a Sheriff's office or Court house to create an official document tying a specific owner to a specific firearm. (Thereby ensuring that YOUR arms will be the 1st "verified", consfiscated, etc.
Why do transfer prices vary between different Shops, Stores, etc?
A transfer agent is simply a business entity or individual that has successfully completed the application/vetting process to become approved/licensed by BATFe. A Federal Firearm Licensee must be licensed according to the requirement for each item transferred. Each provider may set their price as their market dictates.
Do I need to use a local Transfer Agent?
State and Federal law limit FFL licensees to verify citizenship within their State of operation. Therefore, you WILL use a local transfer agent, at least within your State of residence. Requirement for obtaining Long guns vary from State to State.
Can I sell a firearm to my neighbor? According to Federal Law, it is lawful for a citizen to pass ownership to another lawful citizen without any record, notice, filing, etc., as long as the firearm has no known history of unlawful use, and the recipient is not designated "unauthorized" by State Law. (ATF Publication 5300.4, page 179, Q-B16).
NOTE!!! South Carolina Law SECTIONS 16-23-30 list parameters for "UNAUTHORIZED PERSONS" in South Carolina.
Why not make my purchase Locally?
WHY NOT, IN DEED!! A purchase through your local retailer benefits you in many ways. When you purchase locally, your monies help fund local community projects and services. Local business provides other local homes with income. Those employees spend $$$ at your local shops. PLUS, that local Sporting Goods purveyor may be the friendliest face you will find IF you have questions regarding your purchase, there is a need for warranty work, or you need someone to interface with the manufacturer in the warranty of your product. Please support your local retailer.
